‘Compassion and empathy coupled with skill and dedication to care for the dying are essential to high quality Palliative Care (PC).’

When the Palliative Care Department was initiated at Shri Siddhivinayak Ganapati Cancer Hospital in 2017, the team was fortunate to have Ms Mary Margaret P Manda, who was the very embodiment of the above mentioned qualities, to step up to the responsibility of building our PC services.

Ms Manda took up the PC Certificate Course at the Tata Memorial Hospital (even if it meant staying away from her two small children) and soon followed it up with the ELNEC and Fellowship (NFPN) course. She has been a role model, a teacher and a source of inspiration to many young nursing students.

A team player and a core member of the PC team at the Shri Siddhivinayak Ganapati Cancer Hospital, Ms Manda’s selfless devotion to patients and their families, has allowed her to champion the cause of PC in the small town of Sangli-Miraj.

The team at Shri Siddhivinayak Ganapati Cancer Hospital, Miraj, applauds this nurse par excellence for making a difference to the lives of suffering people.
